About Our Client

Operating from 89 UK stores Big Yellow Self Storage opened in 1999 and is the UK's leading self storage business, listed on the FTSE250 with turnover in excess of £100m. The company has over 200 National Accounts occupying circa 160,000 sq. ft. of storage space.

Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity to play an influential role in further developing the National Accounts business within the Company, and has great earnings potential.

Your role will also include:

Business Development

  • Developing and delivering a Sales and Profit driven business plan, in accordance with business objectives.
  • Setting clear short and long term goals in order to achieve agreed targets, re- evaluating as change occurs.
  • Converting enquiries and referrals into National Account customers.
  • Maintaining an awareness of the current business climate and being informed about the industries in which our National Account customers are part.
  • Maintaining and re-visiting past prospects and customers lists and planning re-contact dates.
  • Identifying sources of new business through analysis of current customers, industry trends, competitor activity and research and networking.

Account Management

  • Acting as the primary account contact, providing account leadership.
  • Maximising revenue by creating strong relationships with National Account customers; delivering their requirements, identifying new opportunities, gaining referrals and maintaining relationships when contacts move to other companies.
  • Identifying Key Accounts and planning / conducting joint reviews with these key accounts on a regular basis to identify areas where Big Yellow can add benefit and increase profit.
  • Regularly identifying accounts no longer meeting National Account criteria and conducting a review that results in either additional business or the customer being moved to management at store level.

Administration Management

  • Effectively managing workload, prioritising and re-arranging when necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all business discussions and agreed operating terms with all accounts within SpaceManager.


  • Keeping all stakeholders informed on all important issues and reporting monthly on activity within National Accounts to relevant departments.
  • Communicating effectively with Area Manager and store teams, including regularly attending Area Meetings.
  • Reporting monthly or as agreed to the Head of New Business Development on the progress / challenges encountered in developing new business.

The Successful Applicant

Critical to the success of this role you will have:

  • Previous experience within an Account Management position, good business judgement, a track record of achieving results and building successful sustainable relationships with key stakeholders.
  • An enthusiastic and friendly disposition, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A team player mentality.

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with experience of meeting and exceeding targets and objectives.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) and the ability to learn new applications.
  • Ambition and self-motivation with an excellent attitude and great work ethic.
  • Ownership of a full UK driving licence.

What's on Offer

Basic salary: £40,000 to £45,000. OTE: £55,000 including bonus plus excellent company Share Scheme and other benefits.
