Job Description

Key duties and responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide strategic support and specialist technical advice on all matters relating to tax planning on asset development and regeneration projects at a senior level to regions and areas to ensure that tax efficient as far as possible.
  • Build and manage constructive relationships with internal clients, external Advisers and Consultants in order to deliver a customer focused and responsive service.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to the company to ensure legal compliance.
  • Communicate complex and detailed information to non-finance managers as appropriate, presenting key financial concepts clearly and persuasively.
  • Assist in the communication of highly complex business cases in line with the company strategy.
  • Contribute towards improving internal controls for recording and tracking income, property taxes, including capital gains and stamp duty, and other tax information:
    • Supervise the accounting for tax arrangements within the Company, including regularly reviewing systems to ensure compliance with relevant taxation requirements;
    • Keep abreast of new legislation and legal decisions, assessing their impact on the Company and make relevant and timely recommendations for change as necessary;
    • Periodically review the Company's business activities to identify those that might give rise to a Corporation tax exposure.
  • Maintain and develop robust processes and procedures to improve the efficiency of the calculation and production of VAT returns using system functionality, ensuring that these are correctly and fully documented as an integral part of the overall departmental procedures.
  • Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of tax related policies that impact across the company to ensure compliance.
  • Plan, prepare and analyse all relevant tax return.
    • Oversee the preparation of the Company's corporation tax return and ensure submission to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) within prescribed deadlines;
    • Oversee the preparation of the Company's CIS returns and ensure timely submission to HMRC.
    • Calculate the Company's Corporation tax liability and liaise with External Auditors to agree the basis of the computation;
    • Prepare and submit the VAT tax return;
    • Handle all VAT compliance issues, including preparing and submitting to HMRC any voluntary disclosures required;
    • Review the Company's annual VAT Partial Exemption calculation and advise on the impact of any financial decisions on the calculation;
    • Manage elections and negotiations with HMRC

The Successful Applicant

The following would be looked for in a successful candidate:

  • Experience in VAT/Indirect Tax
  • Good all round knowledge/understanding of accountancy/tax
  • Previous industry experience - preferably within the Real Estate/Property sector
  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Sense of humour
  • Team player
  • Initiative
