About Our Client

You will work with Product Managers and editorial, commerce and other teams to use data to inform page design and strategic decisions. You will build a discipline of iterative testing across Travel, directly influencing the success of the business and working to embed a culture of optimisation.

You will be a key member of the travel team and your work will not simply be to optimize existing products, but to shape and define new products that are critical to the future of the business.

The Travel Commerce team works closely with Travel Editorial and Product and is part of the Telegraph Commerce Dept.

The purpose of the Commerce department is to develop and manage branded and endorsed commercial partnerships that maximise profits from the sale of products and services directly to audiences, through multi-media marketing plans, including, digital, direct marketing (postal, digital and telephony) and print channels.

Commerce currently comprises of circa 25 team members and is principally split between four core commercial teams: Financial Services; Travel; Retail (Gardening, Home ware, Fashion, Publishing, Entertainment, Books, Wine); and Paid Services (Games, Dating, Puzzles, Daily/Weekly Deals); plus support functions including Digital Marketing and Delivery & Insights.

Travel leverages the Editorial content assets by developing propositions around them, such as Tours, package holidays, cruises, flights, hotels and city breaks, which are all promoted under the Travel brand and supported by multi-channel marketing activities.

Job Description

Key job responsibilities

  • Continually increase the number of clicks that we are sending to our partners
  • Position commerce effectively within the travel UX and develop most effective UI
  • Own the improvement of the click through rate (CTR). Monitor CTR for different pages and devise tests to improve CTR.
  • Work with acquisition and partnership teams to maximise all aspects of demand chain
  • Contribute to why user should plan their trips with the as opposed to other travel media
  • Write specifications for new products and features, develop business cases for them, present them to development team and subsequently QA development work before launch
  • Develop landing pages to improve CTR and partner conversion
  • Implement and execute an A/B and multivariate testing program
  • Design effective experiments and document test plans in collaboration with product managers, marketing staff and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and prioritise the testing roadmap according to shifting business priorities.
  • Supervise the end-to-end process of test design, development and analysis.
  • Build a culture of optimisation within the travel business in collaboration with colleagues in product, research, UX, and analytics.
  • Use observation and analysis to recommend iterative improvements to site design and marketing, and measure the success of those recommendations.

The Successful Applicant

Specific requirments / skills

  • Demonstrable experience of effecting commercial improvement through consistent and sustained optimisation techniques
  • Experience of a transactional travel or media business
  • Excellent attention to detail, project management and prioritisation skills
  • Detailed knowledge of statistics and experiment design processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work seamlessly with a cross-functional team of analysts, developers, marketers and product managers
  • 5+ years experience with digital analytics (Webtrends and Google Analytics, Omniture), A/B, slice and MVT testing platforms (Optimizely/Adobe Target)
  • Ability to think strategically, analyse and interpret market and consumer information
  • Proven ability to deliver positive outcomes in a fast-paced environment with the ability to take responsibility and multi-task in order to meet daily deadlines; having the tenacity to get things done is essential.
