About Our Client

University of West London Students' Union (UWLSU) provides support, activities and representation for over 12,000 students studying at University of West London. The University provides a mixture of higher and further education across 8 schools in London and Reading.
UWLSU provides a range of services directly to students and represents them to the university to drive improvements in the provision of education. Students themselves are at the heart of everything and they are involved in the design and delivery of everything we do. The Trustees devolve the responsibility of running the organisation to the Chief Executive and, through them, the Staff Team. The Head of Finance & Business Development will be a key member of the Senior Management Team driving growth through income generating activity and commercial decision making.

Job Description

  • Ensure all statutory returns including VAT returns are completed in good time
  • Business Partnering the Senior Leadership team to provide them withanalytical information to inform commercial decision making
    • Manage the annual budget including control of spend and regular forecasting
    • Represent the SU at Trustee Board meetings and at University Board meetings
    • Ensure efficient and effective running of the Finance team including: invoicing, payment runs, debt management, management accounts, bank reconciliations
    • Aid the delivery and development of the UWLSU strategy from a financial and commercial perspective
    • Responsible for the management, recruitment and induction of staff in the Finance & Business Team

The Successful Applicant

You will be a fully qualified CCAB accountant with strong financial reporting and control capabilities that can be evidenced through experience. The ability to lead a finance function is key to success within the role; this should include a track record of working as part of a senior management team to help continually develop the strategy of the organisation from a financial perspective. This role requires strong technical skills alongside the ability to build strong relationships and business partner at varied levels within the business. Applications from all sectors are welcomed but experience of working for a charity or company generating income through sales is essential.

Salary £50,000 - £55,000 Pro rated to 0.7 FTE (flexible) + other benefits
