Job Description

Key responsibilities:

Student and senior training programmes:

  • Contribute to development of student and senior training programmes (Years 1-5)
  • Review content of student and senior training programmes as developed by secondees
  • Delivery of third year student training programmes, senior technical training day and facilitate as necessary on soft skills elements of senior training programme

Assistant Manager(AM) training programme:

  • Development and delivery of technical aspects of AM programme, including development and delivery of new project management and Caseware training to improve audit efficiency

Quality monitoring:

  • To be a member of the quality monitoring committee
  • Review quality monitoring report and identify necessary changes/additions to student/senior training programmes in conjunction with seconded L&D Manager
  • Meetings with ICAEW and key contact for ICAEW/ACCA review visits
  • CPD monitoring for ABS and integrating CPD into new on-line performance management system


  • Preparation of London training budget, including exam budget and review of regional ABS training budgets
  • Review time charged to L&D from client facing partners and staff and ensure in-line with budget

Line management:

  • Operational line management of L&D Manager and L&D Co-ordinator


  • Identify and evaluate external technical training courses and suppliers and advise on appropriateness for staff
  • Liaise with external suppliers regarding in-house training so as to ensure suppliers meet quality and cost requirements
  • Contact for ABS offices in respect of exam policy, internal and external training queries
  • Support ABS with specific L&D training requests and enquiries, e.g. sector training, new hires, team workshops

The Successful Applicant

Qualified accountant (ACA/CA/ACCA)

Key Experience/Skills:

  • Technical expertise - needs to have good understanding of current technical standards and audit approaches
  • Proven L&D experience, preferably working in an FCA regulated and/or a Professional Services environment.
  • Significant external audit experience gained within a professional services environment.
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of accounting and auditing standards, industry specifics and their application.
  • Strong communication skills in order to liaise with Partners, staff and other professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and training delivery skills
