About Our Client

PPF are a £23 billion financial services organisation protecting millions of people who belong to thousands of eligible final salary pension schemes throughout the UK.

Hundreds of thousands of people depend on us to pay them compensation for the pension they lost when their employers, or former employers went bust and could no longer afford to pay what they promised.

They don't choose to come to us, but we're here as their lifeboat when they need us - and we value every member. For us, it's all about protecting people's futures - and that's our vision at the PPF. So, why not join us and make a real difference to people's lives?

Job Description

Both pensions lawyer positions will be on a Fixed Term Contract basis and are reporting into a Senior Pensions Lawyer in the team awarded second place In-house Public Sector Team of the Year at the 2015 Lawyer Awards. These are key roles in a cross-skilling initiative within the legal team and will offer a unique opportunity to experience a broad range of legal practice areas within PPF, including Pensions, Investment, Corporate, Commercial, Disputes, Compliance and Regulatory work, potentially on a longer term basis.

Associate Lawyer - 22 months

  • Advising on pensions and related issues and taking responsibility for advising the Board of the Pension Protection Fund, management, and, where appropriate, staff, on all legal issues affecting them, with particular (but not exclusive) focus on the assigned portfolio area(s).
  • Identifying and highlighting any potential risk to the organisation as well as suggesting appropriate solutions to manage that risk. Supervising more junior members of the team where appropriate. To advise independently of Senior Lawyer's input, where appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, attending Board / Committee/ ExCo and other meetings to present legal advice (including on Senior Lawyer's behalf), and to advise on the implications of such advice.
  • Lawyer - 12 months
  • Assisting the Senior Lawyer in providing comprehensive and timely legal advice and solutions to senior management, staff and the Board of the Pension Protection Fund on all aspects of the organisation's operations, with particular emphasis on the assigned portfolio area(s).
  • Advising on legal issues which are relevant to the PPF, to advise (or assist the Senior Lawyer) the Board of the Pension Protection Fund, management, and staff, on all legal issues affecting them, including attending meetings where appropriate.

The Successful Applicant

The successful applicants will be qualified lawyers with a broad knowledge of pensions law, comfortable turning their hand to new areas of law and leading by example. The ability to interpret and analyse complex legislation (including the Pensions Act 2004) is a must. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work with different people at all levels of seniority and must be comfortable working proactively in a dynamic change-driven environment.

For the 'Associate' role being able to take responsibility for projects with minimum supervision would be a great strength as well as experience supervising the work of more junior members of a team.
