Job Description

The PR & Media Manager will be responsible for developing and leading an audience focused PR & media engagement strategy as part of the wider communications strategy. The key objective will be to enhance the stature and reputation by making the organisations voice heard across relevant media channels. Key components of this strategy will be to build our brand identity, voice, media output and media relationships.

The role holder - working with the Head of Communications, relevant agencies and partners - will create, deliver and evaluate sector leading, award-winning multi-channel PR campaigns that effectively position and promote the organisation to achieve its key objectives.

The PR & Media Manager will build strategic relationships with the media and other external partners to share and amplify its story and key messages.

The role holder will be the 'go to' person for guidance on all PR & media related issues and will play a lead role in positioning the importance of PR & media activity as part of the organisations strategic themes and priorities, particularly with senior colleagues.

As a consequence, the PR & Media Manager will build key relationships internally with relevant academics and media spokespeople to demonstrate the University's strengths and though leadership within the media. The role holder will lead on organising relevant training, briefing and support.

The role holder will also play a key role in the University's Awards & Competition entry process.

The PR & Media Manager will lead our PR and media engagement activity including press office function. The role holder will also play a critical role in planning and managing any crisis communications activity. In addition, the role holder will play a key role in issues management and will support the University's wider public/external affairs agenda.

The Successful Applicant

  • A PR professional who has a proven track record of developing PR strategies
  • Has a background in crises communications
  • A proven track record of management
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience

3-6 month contract paying up to £40k pro rata.
