About Our Client

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Answering calls from Journalists, responding to their questions
  • Monitoring the press office's email inbox for media enquiries
  • Writing press releases
  • Communicating with Journalists to try to interest them in the organisation's press releases and feature ideas
  • Devising and producing proactive media campaigns
  • Arranging for spokespeople to speak to the media
  • Monitoring media coverage and prepare regular evaluation reports
  • Attending press conferences or interviews with the organisation's spokespeople
  • Advising senior staff members on written responses to the media
  • Proof-reading and sometimes rewriting media statements
  • Meeting journalists and building relations with the media
  • Responding to the media during crisis PR events or negative incidents

Job Description

The role will be an interim 3 month contract so you must be immediately available and ideally have experience working within a short-term assignment in a similar role. The team requires someone to hit the ground running who will require minimum supervision. The role can be quite demanding at times and sometimes you may be required to work out of hours and be on call at weekends.

You will gain valuable knowledge of working for a government organisation which could lead to future employment within a different department.

What's on Offer

Key skills required:

  • Experience working as a Press Assistant or Press Officer within a large and busy team
  • Experience managing integrated marketing programmes, with strong online skillset (e.g. PPC, SEO, email)
  • Social media experience - Twitter, Facebook etc
  • Track record of effective marketing support achieving deadlines and able to multi-task
  • Attention to detail in checking copy and other elements of marketing outputs both online and offline
