Procurement at Thames Water will be looking to deliver against tangible savings targets across this and the next period, as well as delivering value over and above the pound sign.

Working within a matrix environment, the successful candidate will gain great exposure to a huge range of projects, business stakeholders, suppliers and wider business streams. The Procurement team at Thames Water is currently responsible for £1.5billion worth of spend per year, with contract values ranging between circa £100,000 through to hundreds of million pounds.

This is an entry-level role into business analysis within Thames Water Procurement; as such this role is an excellent development opportunity and will suit graduate entries, candidates with some relevant commercials or someone looking for a mid-career change. Opportunity to move into the wider business at Thames Water is actively encouraged, and those joining analytical positions are seen as a great talent pool to other business streams.

Job Description

  • As a Procurement Business Analyst, your time will predominantly be split between data analytics, sourcing projects, and stakeholder engagement. This will involve:
  • Maintaining excellent knowledge of available internal and external data.
  • Efficiently supporting the spend and information gathering process by working with the Sourcing Manager, suppliers and third parties (e.g. research agencies).
  • Supporting the analysis of tender responses and evaluation process by demonstrating insights and findings and supporting the project team in bidder clarification discussions based on insights and findings.
  • Ensuring insights and findings are concisely articulated back to the project team. Preparing reliable and accurate data analysis for clarification meetings.
  • Identifying key insightful findings in order to prepare a comprehensive category profile.
  • Supporting the development of sourcing recommendations, by providing commercial analysis of final costs verses budgets and baseline outlined in sourcing strategy, and evidencing what additional business value has been enabled.
  • With support, developing appropriate commercial models and pricing templates/ bid sheets for each sourcing initiative either using existing templates, building on existing models or creating new models.
  • Regularly engaging with stakeholders to elicit information and define scope of analysis. Providing support to internal and external (supplier) meetings to explain data analysis as requested.
  • Preparing presentation and relevant documentation and contribute to key formal documentation.
  • On one-to-many basis verbally communicate information relating to related area of responsibility.

The Successful Applicant

This role requires a self-starter with a proven strong analytical mind set and proven ability to work well under pressure. In addition, the successful candidate must possess intermediate Excel capabilities (pivot tables, v look ups) as well as either a relevant degree or some relevant commercial experience. You will be self-sufficient, hold strong communication / stakeholder engagement skills, and be able to prioritise/multitask to produce required deliverables efficiently.

Key to this role is also the ability to isolate key issues and draw sound conclusions from various sources of information. Ideally, the Business Analyst will already have a good understanding of a commercial business and experience in the relevant functional area, or at least a high personal drive to gain this capability quickly. Equally, experience with business analysis techniques, data modelling tools would be desirable but is not essential.
