Job Description

The successful candidate is able to deliver strategic sourcing projects with support from a Category Manager, undertaking most tasks independently. Projects will tend to deliver incremental change with step-change requiring greater support. The scope included up to £50m expenditure and up to 50 suppliers

You will also:

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to product and service specifications.
  • With the framework set by the Category Manager, agree all business as usual activity such as supplier selection, supplier set-up, contract terms, negotiation strategies and business improvement plans.
  • Working with the stakeholder, identify and quantify trade offs between cost, quality and service.
  • With support from the Category Manager, negotiation of favourable contract terms in line with Sainsbury's Contracting Policy.
  • Operate as part of the Category Team and support the development of Category Plans.

The Successful Applicant

Will have good commercial acumen and make decisions based upon commercial factors and will be able to present them to a C6-level audience and deal with moderate challenges.

The successful candidate understands the direct impact of decisions and is able to identify a list of alternative options.

The successful candidate will develop strong commodity knowledge including understanding the immediate components and drivers of a agreement

The successful candidate will have basic knowledge of contract law and will understand the key elements of a contract.

You will require the following:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a commercial environment, preferably procurement.
  • Ability to understand and implement the strategic sourcing methodology across at least one commodity.
  • Commercial awareness and analytical thinking skills e.g. understanding cost make-up and alternative pricing models.
  • Ability to lead small cross functional teams with support from the Category Manager.
  • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships to Senior Manager level.
  • Strong verbal and written influencing skills up to Senior Manager level.
  • Ability to manage 3rd Parties in line with Supplier Relationship Management Programme with support from the Category Manager.
  • Basic contract law knowledge.
  • Ability to build strong knowledge of a commodity area and communicate fluently with a supplier or stakeholder
  • Knowledge of end to end procurement process
