Job Description

This is an important role within the procurement function with responsibility for managing a range of suppliers, contracts, and purchasing activity. This role is also the procurement function's day to day interface with some challenging stakeholders.


  • Assist in the preparation of the procurement strategy.
  • Prepare own operational plan and assist in the preparation of the department's annual Operational Plan.
  • Develop a workload management and reporting system for planning and managing own activity, as agreed with the relevant Principal Procurement Manager.
  • Ensure that services are provided in accordance with agreed levels of service and the required standards of probity and in an efficient manner and provide value for money.
  • Liaise with senior managers in the Trust to ensure the services being provided are aligned with their operational and clinical requirements.
  • Identify any key risk areas and ensure that these are managed, reported, and controlled.

The Successful Applicant


Substantial experience of negotiating and
managing contracts with a commercial bias.

Proven experience of:

  • Working across traditional boundaries;
  • Understanding of business strategy.
  • Managing effective client relationships and providing first class support
  • Industry best practice and cross-sector experience
  • Specialisation in certain relevant category of purchases
  • Innovation through imagination and use of technology.
  • Effectively managing complex contractual negotiations and processes.
  • Preparing and reviewing legal contracts and documentation
  • Working in a modern IT environment using emails, MS software.


  • Have experience of working in large teams within complex organisations..
  • In depth knowledge of health-care products and services and of specific and relevant categories.
  • Handling complex negotiations with tangible commercial benefits.
  • Experience in the Health Sector
  • Experience of private sector purchasing and contracting.
  • Managing public sector procurement involving OJEU.
  • Experience of using Oracle systems
