Job Description

The successful Professional Support Lawyer with work directly with the Channel Islands Corporate Practice Heads. Liaising with the wider group knowledge management team, the PSL will represent the Jersey and Guernsey business. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking complex legal research and professional and legal technical support;
  • Developing, drafting and maintaining high-quality precedents, policies and protocols for the Jersey and Guernsey fee earners;
  • Distributing on a timely basis any emerging case law, legislative or regulatory developments and technical analysis and commentary;
  • Providing fee earner support on specified client matters, as requested.
  • Provide peer assistance to senior practice specialists or more junior associates - acting as a sounding board or "lawyers' lawyer" for discussing technical issues and transactional problems or coaching/mentoring legal trainees.

The Successful Applicant

The role will be based out of the Jersey office and so the successful candidate will already be based on island or be looking for a relocation to this island based jurisdiction. Jersey has a low income tax rate, enviable work/life balance and booming professional services industry.

The successful Professional Support Lawyer will either already be working in a similar role, or come from a corporate law background and be looking for a change in responsibilities and ultimately, lifestyle. Background for the successful Professional Support Lawyer will include:

  • Qualified lawyer in England or a common law jurisdiction of 3-5 years PQE as a corporate lawyer or PSL (or preferably a combination of both)
  • Sound analytical skills and strong technical and transactional knowledge.
  • Robust legal research skills and familiarity with major legal research products.
  • Strong project management skills and initiative.
