About Our Client

The Church of England Birmingham diocese, founded in 1905, is one of 41 dioceses in England and responsible for areas including Birmingham, Solihull, Sandwell, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. Their portfolio includes over 187 places of worship and 155 residential properties for clergy housing. Their Head office is in the heart of Birmingham's commercial district on Colmore Row.

They are seeking to appoint a Chartered Building Surveyor with the ability to consider 'the big picture' whilst maintaining a hands-on role with clergy residences and property development projects.

Job Description

As the Property Director, you will manage the in-house property team responsible for enhancing the property assets. Your wide ranging remit will include:

  • Interrogate design proposals and provide structural and design advice that helps make the Churches even more welcoming
  • Provide strategic development advice to maximise the potential of individual sites.
  • Perform regular Building Surveys as part of a five year asset management plan to the residential property portfolio
  • Oversee repair and maintenance of residential properties
  • Manage 'major' works from inception to completion
  • Review and agree leases and licences
  • Provide risk assessments and Health & safety advice
  • Inform, engage and inspire key stakeholders of varying property appreciation.

The Successful Applicant

You will be a Chartered (MRICS) Building Surveyor capable of demonstrating your ability to perform such a wide ranging role. Your ability to engage and enthuse your audience will be as highly valued as your technical skills, intimate understanding of buildings and the wider property cycle. You are likely to have operated in a similar in-house role, represented a corporate business, retailer or property consultancy. We would also hope that you would enjoy supporting the mission of the Church of England.

What's on Offer

Up to £60,000 per year, 12% Pension Contribution, 35 Hours per week based on site or in the office. Report into the Head Office at least twice a week, 25 days Annual Leave + 3 for Christmas, Free City Centre Parking.
