About Our Client

A small but long-established Northern based law firm who are looking to set up in Birmingham.

Job Description

Have you completely lost all sense of a work/life balance? Are you frustrated with your firm's lack of flexibility around working hours and working from home?

Are you better suited to a smaller firm who will give you autonomy to do your own thing and stamp your own mark?

This is an opportunity with a Northern based law firm who are looking to make a strategic hire in Birmingham to service an increasing number of Midlands based clients. The firm is long established up north, offering a range of legal services from litigation to sports law. The firm is small with less than 10 fee earners but it has been around for a long time and has a loyal client base.

At the moment, they have a lot of property work coming through - both commercial and residential development with the odd conveyancing file here and there. They outsource this work to larger firms but have now taken stock and made the decision to keep this work within the firm. That's where you will come into play.

The firm are looking for an experienced property lawyer who is probably very frustrated at their current firm with the lack of autonomy and lack of flexibility. As you will be the point of contact for all things property, they will need you to know your stuff and be able to work autonomously.

There is work and there are clients so you are not starting from a blank canvas - the firm will keep you busy and they are confident they can increase this property work, once they have a lawyer on board. They'll also expect you to get involved with promoting your new department and hopefully generating work that way too. A client following is not essential as they are confident on work streams but you need to be good with clients and if any clients want to come with you, then great. As you start to develop your own relationships, then the firm is also happy to discuss some form of profit share around new work generated too.

The firm has office space in Birmingham but they are completely relaxed as to what the incoming lawyer wants to do. If you are at a point in your life where working from home will suit best, then they are happy to support this. You'll obviously be expected to get out and about for meeting clients of course.

It's an exciting time to be joining the firm and it's a very important strategic hire for them.

If you need that flexibility and are up for a challenge (it won't be an easy ride - a lot of hard work will be needed particularly in the beginning), then please get in contact

The Successful Applicant

You will need to have a sufficient level of experience to be able to run things on your own. You might run your own firm but looking to make the move back into the comfort of a law firm or you may be a solicitor at a bigger firm who is fed up with the lack of flexibility and work/life balance.

No following is needed but it will obviously help as growing the department will be a part of the role.

What's on Offer

Competitive depending on experience. Potential profit sharing for new clients brought in too.
