Job Description

The Quantity Surveyor will be based either from home or from the office in either West or South Yorkshire, they will work on a number of projects in the private and public sector. They will be responsible for the following:

  • To calculate all building quantities and prepare budget costs for all projects for Capex approval
  • Provide business case and supporting data and analysis to aid Capex submission.
  • To assess each scheme's forecast, budget and actual costs from conception through to post contract and ensure their accuracy.
  • Approve pre contract cost checks from Project Manager and approve all projects as within budget prior to commencement.
  • To manage the Cost performance of external suppliers and to influence and challenge abnormal costs and methodologies to deliver best value.
  • To analyse the component parts of each suppliers detailed budget in order to monitor, and if necessary, challenge contractor's rates, budgets, risks and opportunities.
  • Manage cost control procedures and overall project control to agreed milestones.
  • Ensure Value engineering and Quality management systems are followed.

The Successful Applicant

The ideal Quantity Surveyor will be based either from home or from the office in either West or South Yorkshire and will ideally have experience on public sector projects specifically in the health and education sectors but not a necessity but will have experience working for a consultancy or client side. They will ideally have contacts they can bring with them to help develop the business and break into other sectors. With this position we are open to the experience level of the Quantity Surveyor but with any candidates at the senior end they will be expected to business develop and well as service the existing work. They will also have the following:

  • Degree level qualified/ Relevant QS qualification
  • Chartered status or working towards
  • Consultancy/Client side experience ideally
  • Previous cost management experience
  • Value engineering experience
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering successful Cost Management projects
  • Full understanding of contemporary construction contract specifically JCT and NEC forms of contract
  • Excellent IT skills Advanced Microsoft Excel to include pivot tables; proficient in MS Word and MS Project
