Job Description

This Senior Accountant will be responsible for a portfolio of approximately 50 clients covering bookkeeping, VAT, CIS, management accounts, corporation tax and personal tax. Most clients are typically small limited companies, partnerships and sole traders with turnovers up to £1m.

    • Monthly or quarterly bookkeeping for your clients using Sage, QuickBooks, Xero and Excel
    • You will be required to do all monthly ledger work;
    • Processing bank, petty cash and credit card transactions;
    • Reconciling all bank and cash accounts;
    • Posting month end journals for accruals and prepayments;
    • Posting payroll journals and reconciling control accounts;
    • Posting fixed asset adjustments and maintaining fixed asset registers;
    • Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns; and
    • Liaising directly with clients regarding their queries
  • Preparing monthly or quarterly management accounts for your clients, to include a P&L and Balance sheet;
  • Visiting clients and explaining their accounts
  • Meeting all statutory and client deadlines as well as exceeding them;
  • CIS returns;
  • Preparing annual statutory accounts for small companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLP's
  • Preparing tax computations (corporate and personal);
  • To perform the practices review procedure and completion procedure, as well as attend the final client meeting and ensure they have received the final accounts, management letter and adjustments to opening balances;
  • Supervising and reviewing work carried out by accounts assistants;
  • To oversee and contribute to the overall development of the less experienced members of the accounts team ensuring they are developed to their maximum potential;
  • Assisting in the planning and management of the workflow;
  • Building and maintaining client relationships;
  • Ensuring that all work is completed on time and within budget;

The Successful Applicant

Reporting directly to and working alongside the practice Director, the following skills and experience are essential for the successful candidate:

  • AAT qualified or qualified by experience;
  • Minimum 3 years bookkeeping experience, within a UK general accountancy practice environment, covering all ledger work including data entry, month end journals and balance sheet reconciliation;
  • Proficient in sage Line 50 and Excel;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Outstanding organisational skills;
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage a diverse portfolio of clients;
  • Someone who takes pride in their work and in offering a first class service;
  • Ability to lead by example;
  • Work efficiently in order to complete targets and meet deadlines;
  • Comfortable working within a fast paced working environment;
  • Team player;
  • Self-starter, using own initiative and is proactive;
  • Problem solving;
  • Self-management, able to manage their time effectively to meet long term goals set by senior levels or management and directors.
