Job Description

Responsibilities of the senior buyer

  • Ownership of predominately major services and may involve goods and minor service procurement events
  • Project Management
  • Development of procurement buyers or trainees
  • Act as a 'checker' to other buyer's documents
  • Support Head of Procurement and Purchasing Operations Manager with weekly, monthly, priorities and goal reporting

The Successful Applicant

The profile of the senior buyer:

  • Advanced commercial acumen
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Good understanding of relevant contract law/ EU Directives
  • Demonstrable cost savings
  • Advanced data analysis skills
  • Good understanding of the delivery units and business processes
  • Ability to work at all levels of the business and across BHE platforms
  • Ability to chair a meeting of procurement professionals, and non-procurement stakeholders
  • Advanced reporting and data manipulation
  • Ability to 'own' a portfolio or category of up to £75m contract value


  • CIPS
  • Project Management Skills
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • An understanding of contract law
  • Advanced IT Skills - e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel etc.
