Job Description

The Senior Category Manager for Bsuiness Services based in the Surrey office will be responsible for negotiating the best overall commercial arrangements for the retail & manufacturing company whilst ensuring the lowest total cost of ownership and delivering stakeholder requirements. You will significantly contribute to the overall performance and savings of Corporate Procurement delivering to the bottom line. The following are some of the main activities:

  • Category Management on a global level
  • Strategic Sourcing on a global level
  • Supplier relationship management on a global level
  • Developing category strategy in close connection with Head of Business Services
  • Development and implementation of sourcing strategies for specific category
  • Assessment and awareness of category cost structure, trends and main cost drivers
  • Identification, proposition and managing the implementation of savings and added value opportunities by transferring and applying best practice and leveraging the company's commercial scale
  • Strive for best value for money solutions, and achieve maximum cost saving potential through tendering, negotiation, agreement award and agreement management
  • Accountable for maintaining quality and service standards in sourcing and category management to support existing customer relationships and to deliver continuous improvement Key Responsibilities & Scope for Decision Making
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Assist Head of Business Services in developing, implementing and communicating the corporate wide purchasing strategy
  • Involve cross functional team members and stakeholders across Sony
  • Be recognized as subject matter expert (SME) for Business Services

Strategic Sourcing

    • Lead the development and implementation of the sourcing strategy for specified category
    • Establish category priorities based on a benefit/ effort ratio
    • Manage Requests for Information (RFI) with potential suppliers
    • Structure the Request for Proposals (RFP) and assess results
    • Determine the process for communicating RFP; communicate RFP results to suppliers and interested parties
    • Build a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and supplier ranking matrix
    • Lead development of the negotiation strategy
    • Prepare and conduct fact-based negotiations
    • Implement, execute and manage contract

Supplier relationship management

  • Optimize supply base moving towards a few strategic suppliers
  • Monitor supplier portfolio and identify potential suppliers to realize savings
  • Coordinate supplier development strategies for the category
  • Recognize and appropriately act upon supplier development opportunities
  • Develop supplier relationship management strategies and therefore build and maintain working relationships with key preferred suppliers and improve supplier's performance
  • Lead supplier qualification and measurement for category

Performance tracking

  • Establish, analyze and improve performance management for category and suppliers
  • Track category performance metrics
  • Maintain purchasing internal customer satisfaction metrics

The Successful Applicant

The Surrey based Senior CAtegory Manager for Bsuiness Services should have the following:


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • MBA or equivalent
  • ALTERNATIVE: Diploma in Business Administration, Economics or Finance or equivalent experience
  • CIPS - Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply


  • MS Excel, Word & PowerPoint (required), Access (preferred)
  • SAP Module SRM (preferred)
  • Language skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Additional foreign language (preferred)

Skills and Experience:

  • Significant professional experience in a number of the categories under Business Service'
  • Prior sourcing experience and broad knowledge in indirect categories
  • Experienced in pan-European / global working environment
  • Experience in procurement/strategic sourcing and/or supplier management
  • Deep Sourcing experience and specialist knowledge in a number of Business Services categories
  • Knowledge / experience of business process outsourcing (BPO)
  • Program and Project Management
  • Demonstrable and proven track record of delivering cost savings, cost efficiencies, total cost of ownership improvement and continuous improvement
  • Experienced leading and implementing category strategies in a complex non-mandated European / global environment
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and demonstrable strengths in stakeholder management
  • Ability to help lead / coach / mentor junior team members
  • Ability to balance strategic and tactical approach effectively
  • Flexible, pragmatic, able to cope with change effectively.
