About Our Client

Michael Page are collaborating exclusively with the UK's second largest pureplay online retailer (£1.8B), this is a transformational Commercial Finance Project, a significant milestone in their strategy centring on World Class Finance.

We are looking for exceptional candidates for a number of senior finance roles who have a commercial outlook, drive and desire to make a real difference to one of UK's largest and fastest growing online retailers.

Trading more than 1,100 famous brands, including big name labels and their own exclusive brands, the business has 4 million customers and delivers 48 million products every year.

World Class Finance - After recently posting the best results in over ten years, now is the time for a step change in the capability of finance, a vision initiated by the board. The business is now classed as a world class digital retailer, leading in several key areas, 100% of the business is online with over 80% of online sales completed on mobile devices. This significant investment in Commercial Finance will help transform the support offered to the front end retail business. The business already boasts a qualified finance team of over 30 people, (and a total finance team over 120) encompassing some of the brightest minds in UK retail. Finance that doesn't count money, finance that makes money , this further investment is an exciting opportunity to join them.

Job Description

A subject matter expert, providing financial expertise and rigour to aid decision making, assessing and providing recommendations as to the course of action to take in all areas affecting the relevant divisions.


  • Responsible for the financial output for all activity relating to relevant divisions.
  • Proactively manage emerging risks and opportunities, manage senior stakeholders appropriately.
  • Provide a balance of support and challenge to ensure all commercial objectives remain on track.
  • Ensure accurate, robust and stretching budgets are agreed
  • Ensure team deadlines are always met and that financial information is always produced to the highest standard.
  • Drive continuous improvement of all functional outputs including short, medium and long term forecasts.
  • Work with stakeholders analysis to create innovative solutions to emerging issues and to drive a culture of continuous improvements and ambition.
  • Drive value through commercial insight, analysis and market knowledge.
  • A leadership role within your functional finance team and be expected to play a full part in our transformative journey to becoming a world class finance function.

The Successful Applicant

  • A qualified accountant
  • Confidence, charisma and gravitas to establish highly productive stakeholder relationships. Able to challenge upwards, cross functionally and welcomes challenge.
  • Technically excellent with the ability to deal with complexity and communicate detailed financial matters in simple terms.
  • First class analytical skills with the ability to interpret critical information and data
  • The ability to exercise sound commercial judgment and determine what decision should be taken to best benefit the business.
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines under pressure, and ability to adapt when faced with changing priorities.
  • The ability to navigate and thrive successfully through a complex and demanding business
