With five core retail brands, my client also has joint venture businesses spanning across Europe. Sales in the year ended peaked over £10 billion and growing.

Job Description

The Senior Group Accountant shall be responsible for the following:

Produce internal and external reporting deliverables:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts packs and Board reports for senior Group management.
  • Consolidate budget and forecast submissions.
  • Prepare the weekly store sales report on a rota basis.
  • Produce quarterly sales and profit figures for inclusion in Stock Exchange announcements.
  • Produce the half year interim announcement, year end preliminary announcement and year end financial statements under IFRS.
  • Assist with production of statutory accounts for head office structure companies.
  • Preparation of analysis and presentation material as requested, with focus on the balance sheet.
  • Review, support and challenge the OpCo reporting submissions.



Maintain excellent working relationships with the OpCos and other head office departments, and ensure awareness of technical and business issues facing these stakeholders.

  • Keep management and OpCos informed of accounting technical developments and their impact on Group/OpCo reporting. Assist with co-ordination of, and participation in, OpCo training events and accounting meetings.
  • Work on high-priority projects to implement new accounting and reporting developments and improvements and assist Group Chief Accountant on specialist technical areas, policy updates, reports and adhoc requests.
  • Co-ordination of the Group Hyperion consolidation system and report updates, working closely with the Hyperion system team.



Management of Group Accountants, including:

  • Planning of Group reporting task allocations and co-ordination of monthly (and other cycle) consolidation processes.
  • Training, development and support.



Attending as appropriate key external and internal meetings with (or in place of) Group Chief Accountant eg internally, with auditors or other retailers. Primary contact for the on-site external audit manager.



The Senior Group Accountant shall be based in London.

The Successful Applicant

The Senior Group Accountant will have the following:

Qualified chartered accountant with minimum of two years post-qualification experience.

  • Excel and Word skills required, prior Hyperion experience an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Key competencies: Excellent IFRS technical accounting, attention to detail, judgement, relationship building and communication skills, collaboration, drive and implementation.
  • A good team player and people manager who can operate in a professional but friendly environment.
  • Plc exposure and consolidation experience are required.
  • French language skills are an advantage but not a requirement.



The Senior Group Accountant shall be based in London.
