About Our Client

This global engineering brand are actively seeking a Senior IT Engineer CAD/PDM specialist to join its large workforce and work very closely between the Engineering departments and IT with the ability to train both technical and non technical associates on the ins and outs of utilising CAD/PDM software. The role is based in Walsall but will some travel.

Job Description

The Senior IT engineer CAD/PDM is responsible for supporting the following technologies and also taking ownership for any new Engineering applications added to the business units.

PDM/CAD technology:

WINDCHILL PDM Link, ProjectLink, FlexLM, Solidworks PDM, Pro/INTRALINK, Creo, Solidworks, AutoDesk, Simulation Mechanical, CFD Motion, Ansys, FEA Analysis tools.

  • Provide production CAD support; develop, implement and enforce CAD Standards
  •  Organise the CAD environment ; supply technical support for all CAD software
  •  Provide support for plotting and electronic file submissions
  •  Interact on project standards coordination with clients
  •  Insure CAD vendor management; Provide a budget for all CAD technology items
  •  Provide training and supervision of in-house CAD and PDM users
  •  Maintain CAD document archive and retrieval for projects
  •  Provide leadership and vision to the firm in the area of CAD
  •  Customisation of CAD Programs
  •  Maintain CAD Software inventory
  •  Create products, vaults, folders as per requirement in PDM software for new projects.
  •  Support the planning and deployment of maintenance updates to Engineering systems.
  •  Support the planning and implementation of upgrades to Engineering systems.
  •  Participate in the design, planning, and implementation of new Engineering systems and modules.
  •  Creates formal Engineering Steering committees and conducts regular Steering group meetings to align with the overall business goals and objectives.
  •  Anticipates changes in business conditions and ensures appropriate action is taken to accommodate of these changes

  •  Support the Engineering department requirements (both projects and operations) from both local and global business units.
  •  Contribute to the development of Engineering department strategies to align with the overall business strategy
  •  Develop, implement, and maintain processes and procedures for effective delivery of services, regulatory compliance etc.
  •  Establish and implement 'best-practice' standards as well as departmental policies and procedures.
  •  Consulting with engineering and IT departments on configuration of system
  •  Training associates in various departments of system functions
  •  Upgrading system applications and functionality to improve performance
  •  As it pertains to Windchill perform the following functions:
  1. Manage library contents in windchill as per requirements and updating of knowledge base.
  2. Manage work flow and lifecycle for products, carry out regular maintenance of various windchill elements.
  3. Co-ordinate and communicate with PTC for future development in windchill.
  4. Manage different CAD and NON-CAD formats in windchill, Improve the work flow as per requirements.
  5. Solve end user online problems regarding windchill.
  6. Conduct windchill end user training for new recruits and updating new developments.
  7. Periodically verify and conduct data management in windchill.
  8. Back up of windchill elements regularly, documentation of and updating the windchill requirements, add and remove access control

The Successful Applicant

Strong experience in on-going day-to-day support and also training engineers on the latest features and functionality of CAD/PDM system is a must.

Strong experience in upgrading CAD/PDM systems

Take a lead role in developing, designing, testing, and implementing plans and procedures to protect and continue information systems operations related to network servers in case of a disaster.

The individual will also maintain relationships/work with vendors or consultants on projects and technical support issues.

This position deals with issues or problems that often require thoughtful evaluation before coming up with approaches or solutions.

This position must develop and maintain good working relationships, resolve problems, and positively influence others in order to successfully produce customer satisfaction.

This position requires some travel, to be a resource on-site at business unit locations in and outside of India, helping projects or resolve open Wintel system issues at those sites.

Strong experience in designing, testing and creating DR recovery documentation and performing test for the Intel server platform.

Technical and functional documentation skills are essential.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects.

Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to easily and effectively interact with technical, non-technical, support, and business staff at all levels.

Self-starter; able to manage multiple tasks efficiently for on-time delivery.

Self-motivated; proactive; a team player ; well spoken

Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills and experience communicating with technical and non-technical audiences.
