About Our Client

A leading retailer in Central London, offering an exciting opportunity to a Senior Level buyer.

Job Description

  • Develop and implement complex Commodity Plans that reflect the Category Plan.
  • Communicate and influence stakeholders to Departmental Director level to gain commitment to the Commodity Plan.
  • Direct and lead project teams to deliver Commodity Plans using basic project management tools.
  • Using stakeholder and supplier networks, identify continuous improvement and step-change opportunities to product and service specifications.
  • With the framework set by the Category Manager, independently agree all business as usual activity such as supplier selection, supplier set-up, contract terms, negotiation strategies and business improvement plans.
  • Working with the stakeholder, identify and quantify trade offs between cost, quality and service and develop alternative options.
  • Independently negotiate favourable contract terms in line with the client'sContracting Policy.
  • Operate as part of the Category Team and shape the development of Category Plans.

The Successful Applicant

    • Minimum of 3 years experience of procurement buying positions and proven track record of delivering savings and service targets.
    • Ability to work across multiple commodities.
    • Ability to manage cross functional project teams.
    • Robust commercial awareness and analytical thinking skills.
    • Demonstrated delivery through strategic sourcing principles.
    • Deep commodity knowledge of at least two commodity areas.
    • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships to Departmental Director level.
    • Strong verbal and written influencing skills up to Departmental Director level.
    • Ability to manage 3rd Parties in line with Supplier Relationship Management Programme.
    • Sound knowledge of law and Sainsbury's Contracting Policy.
    • Intellectually strong - degree level capability.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritise to meet targets
