About Our Client

My client are a well established family owned compound manufacturing business who supply into white good manufacturers across a number of industries. Based in Canterbury, they have an established workforce and growing reputation of high retention and low staff turnover. Due to some succession planning, they are currently seeking a Senior Maintenance Engineer who will work alongside their departing Maintenance Manager who will be moving on from the business in the next 12 months. They are seeking an experienced Maintenance professional who has well established level of experience within a manufacturing environment and previous experience of leadership/supervisory of other maintenance staff.

Job Description

The key responsibilities of the Senior Maintenance Engineer will be:

  • Responsibility for all equipment & machinery on site ensuring maximisation of production availability.
  • Designing maintenance strategies, procedures and methods to ensure machine / plant capacity is maximised.
  • You will also be required to assist the Senior Plant Processors and Production Operatives to ensure all machinery requirements of the production plant are met for the purpose of achieving optimum working conditions and performance from both machinery and personnel.
  • When problems arise you are required to deal effectively with these, minimising downtime and ensuring costs are kept within budget.
  • This role is both systems oriented and hands-on. You will be expected to plan and control the maintenance function, but also to work on the plant and equipment.
  • To create, manage and monitor preventative maintenance schedules for all areas of production. Updating maintenance operating procedures (SOP's) and planned preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Working with the maintenance team to fix breakdowns to ensure the smooth running of plant equipment.
  • In addition to the plant equipment (extruders, feed systems, pre-mix area etc.) your role requires you to monitor and take action where required across all process equipment, ensuring machinery / equipment efficiency is maximised and maintained in a safe working order. You must ensure that the company is compliant with health and safety legislation.

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate for the Senior Maintenance Engineer role will have the following background:

  • Qualified in a relevant engineering discipline e.g. Electrical / Electronic or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum Level 4 City & Guilds in a relevant engineering discipline e.g. LGCI, SVQ/NVQ level 4, Level 4 vocational awards.
  • Significant experience gained within a production or JIT manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable problem solving skills and the ability to be actively 'hands on' when dealing with engineering related problems.
  • Health and Safety: Understanding of H&S as applicable to maintenance and engineering procedures.
  • Significant practical engineering experience including a supervisory role managing people.
  • Able to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.

What's on Offer

The successful candidate for the Senior Maintenance Engineer role will be offered £35,000 - £38,000 + Pension Scheme if offered the role.
