Job Description

Leadership & Teamwork

To support the Assistant Director of Finance - Financial and Management Accounting, Planning and Reporting to ensure the timely delivery of robust management information, and complex financial modelling.

To ensure frequent and effective communication of financial insight from multiple projects to key stakeholders across the organisation.

To guide, mentor and instruct staff in the Business Planning and Reporting Services team.

Service Delivery

To lead in the production and future development of the University's Project Accounting reporting requirements, for budget holders and senior staff.

To oversee and shape the way financial transactions are processed and reported, and to manage the production of quality management information for budget holders and senior staff providing specialist advice and support to enable them to take undertake academic and resource planning.

To be the lead point of contact for the provision of accurate cost data in respect of International and UK based collaborations.

To work as part of the senior management team within Finance to contribute to the development wide strategic plans and operations.

Liaison and Networking

To make an active contribution to relevant external groups, influencing developments in favour wherever possible. This will include participation in regional networks.

Data Analysis/ Interpretation

To identify current trends and provide both high-level and detailed analysis in relation to all matters

The Successful Applicant

A first degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent relevant experience and must be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountant with considerable post qualification experience.

Ability to interpret and convey complex information (both orally and in writing) to a range of diverse audiences and liaise credibly and articulately with other professionals.

Ability to build relationships and establish networks with internal and external contacts, influencing others thinking and to negotiate in order to achieve the desired positive outcomes.

Ability to lead the work of a team and multiple projects including; co-ordinating effort and resources, determining objectives and resource requirements, identifying inefficiencies, implementing solutions, and setting standards to meet institutional requirements.

Excellent analytical skills and financial modelling skills, including the ability to explore, evaluate and interpret complex sets of information, draw conclusions, report and recommend potential solutions with practicable courses of action taking into consideration the wider impact of these solutions.

Significant experience of working within an project accounting environment of a large organisation including:

  • development and implementation of new administrative systems, procedures and controls
  • accurately interpreting complex information and presenting detailed information in a formal manner to senior managers in both verbal and written formats
  • Working in a devolved budgeting environment.
