Job Description

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage / Lead Project Commercial Activities.
  • Responsible to the Senior Commercial Manager for all project commercial activities pertaining to that business section.
  • Planning of commercial resource requirements (people and equipment) for current and future business needs.
  • Establishment and maintenance of the appropriate project commercial controls to deliver the business objectives e.g.:
  • Commercially responsible for the program of works.
  • Develop, with the Procurement team, project procurement strategies and program.
  • Management of the project full sub-contract cycle including preparation of flow down documentation, with the Procurement team and production of liability sheets.
  • Management of application and credit control processes ensuring positive cash flow.
  • Management and avoidance of disputes.
  • Identify and preparation of variations to contracts.
  • Input into the management of change control system and increases to contract value ensuring any agreement within Limits of Authority.
  • Escalation of potential EOT's and claims. Manage / provide required commercial project specific backup information and support claim submissions.
  • Support the management of project risk.
  • Provision of basic commercial advice to Project teams.
  • Commercial Management of Alliance partners.
  • Attendance of Project review meetings.
  • Ensure accurate project cost control and accurate project forecasts.
  • Support the production of client and internal reports.
  • Input into the development of team spirit and trustworthiness within Project commercial team, Client and Subcontractors.
  • Performance Management and continuous improvement of the commercial processes and controls within the business.
  • Support tender pricing activities as and when required.
  • Work in close conjunction with project managers, sales, procurement, finance, and engineering to achieve the business results.
  • Develop profitable customer commercial relationships.

The Successful Applicant

Required skills:

  • Demonstrable experience and in depth knowledge of project Commercial activities, electrical project experience an advantage
  • BSc or HND in Quantity Surveying or other equivalent construction / commercial related subject. Preferably qualified CIOB or RICS accreditation (or working towards it).
  • Experience in dealing with Network Rail contract terms and conditions - Rail Electrification Projects an advantage.
  • Alternatively, experience within the Utilities, Defence or Nuclear industry.
  • A strong team leader
  • Self motivated.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organising skills

  • Take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions that could have an environmental impact.
  • Ensure compliance with the BMS procedures relative to their position.
  • Inform management of any changes in materials, plant or processes and of any new materials, plant or processes which become apparent in the course of work that may impact on safety or the environment.
  • Report all safety and environmental incidents and accidents.
