Job Description

The role of the Strategic Contract Manager is to provide strategic contract management and commercial leadership to the department and other associated bodies. This role involves the management of extremely high profile contracts across it's division, dealing with a wide range of senior stakeholders to ensure contract compliance and high quality service delivery. The role will therefore require the development of strong relationships with a range of internal and external contacts at all levels across government. The post will provide strategic leadership to a team of procurement and contract management professionals which will also include line management responsibilities.

Key accountabilities

The Senior Contracts Manager will:

  • Provide strategic direction to a team of procurement and contract management professionals to ensure that all activity supports the department's key objectives, is underpinned with robust governance and risk management whilst complying with all relevant Government, EU and departmental policies and regulations;

  • Develop strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels within the Organisation and other Government Departments in order to maximize opportunities to collaborate and achieve efficiency's;

  • Lead in the design and implementation of innovative commercial solutions, including robust and leading edge contract management tools, techniques and processes and ensure they are embedded across the department and its associated bodies.

  • Support the ongoing management of a robust, auditable and transparent procurement governance and assurance framework which ensures that policies, processes and work instructions are developed to support the need to source, select, manage and deliver the diverse range of works, goods and services required by the Department.

The Successful Applicant

  • The Senior Contracts Manager will have;
  • Demonstrable track record of developing or working within procurement governance structures with supporting policy and processes.
  • Awareness of government initiatives and policies.
  • A proven track record of operational effectiveness in a sophisticated matrix structure coupled with project management expertise and the ability to drive for and exceed required goals.
  • Line management responsibility for multiple FTEs, to include defining measurable goals to achieve deliverables and ongoing performance/coaching of individuals
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
  • Significant hands-on procurement knowledge gained on large project procurements.
  • Knowledge of working with or for publicly-funded bodies, including central government departments.
  • Experience of procurement in the private sector would be beneficial.
  • Degree level or equivalent qualification

Permanent Offer: £70,000 - £80,000 + Depending on Experience.
