Strategic Technical Buyer.

My Client is an exciting fast growing and stable manufacturing company based in South Wales who are needing a Strategic Technical Buyer with specific electrical and electro - mechanical commodity background. They are needing somebody who has excellent Supplier Relationship management skills to add increased values to an ever expanding spend portfolio.

Job Description

The role:

This role would suit an experienced Senior Buyer, Strategic Buyer, Purchasing Manager

  • To manage a high exposure product commodity for the business
  • Develop and deliver a commodity strategy that meets the needs of the business
  • Negotiate contract terms, price, delivery
  • Facilitate cross functional teams to deliver solutions that meet NPI programme needs, and programme manage the supplier introduction

Key Responsibilities.

  • To identify, assess and select suitable suppliers
  • Maintain metrics of supplier and personal performance
  • Create strategic an innovative solutions to business problems in order to maximise profitability
  • To provide management metrics which allows accurate and easy monitoring of progress
  • Ensure Supplier non-Quality is reduced in line with agreed targets
  • Rationalise Supply base in line with Business Plan to ensure maximum economies of scale
  • Select and negotiate supplier terms and conditions in line with Company policy
  • Work with programme team to manage all procurement aspects of the programme
  • Manage the Sub-contract management process ensuring the new programmes are delivered on-time, on budget and to the required Quality standard
  • Project management skills and the ability to mitigate and manage risks within the programme
  • Liaison with programme teams to ensure release of information in a timely manner to the supply base to ensure sufficient lead time
  • Technically aware with strong commercial background
  • Negotiation of prices, terms and conditions, long term agreements
  • Understand processes/procedures and challenge design/processes to optimize lead time and cost
  • Identify improvements, cost down opportunities and drive them through to delivery
  • Experience of MRP/project management tools and methods
  • Negotiation of supplier development contracts
  • Involvement in e-procurement systems such as e-auctions, e-RFQ, eSourcing

The Successful Applicant

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • A good academic standard of education (Ideally 5 GCSE's)
  • MCIPS desirable not essential or CIPS.
  • Degree educated desirable not essential

Skills and expertise:

  • Background in a technical procurement role in a manufacturing related industry
  • 5 year's experience in a similar strategic role
  • Experience in developing ideas
  • Experience in reading and understanding engineering drawings
  • Demonstrable experience in pulling together extensive project plans detailing key milestones and tasks

Competencies and personal attributes

  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to establish good working relationships across departments and with supplier representatives at all levels.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic approach to work
  • A strong team player

Computer literate with MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects
