Job Description

The Technical Reporting and Controls Accountant will need to have the following knowledge and experience:

Conversion from old UK GAAP to IFRS and FRS 101

  • Identification of additional disclosures needed; preparation of draft notes; identifying and controlling sources of data needed.
  • Working with the Finance Manager, preparation of skeleton accounts for review by Financial Controller and external auditors in advance of final audit.
  • Development of controls and processes around accounts preparation.

Provision of technical accounting advice

  • Through a strong understanding of IFRS, the ability to investigate and explain IFRS requirements and impacts on a variety of situations.
  • A strong understanding of accounting for derivatives and disclosure requirements would be very useful.

External reporting

  • Working with the Finance Manager, ensure all statutory accounts are prepared (using Word and Excel) for all entities. These will be in a combination of IFRS, FRS 101 and local FRS 101 equivalent.
  • Working with the Finance Manager, ensure all statutory accounts are ready for audit and clear audit with a minimum of queries.
  • Develop the controls and processes around external reporting.
  • Share knowledge within the team to help other team members understand external reporting requirements.

Development, management and testing of the month-end control environment

  • Develop and implement a robust month-end control environment for all balance sheet items, with an emphasis on understanding the makes up of balances, risks to those numbers, and controls around accounting estimations.

Other

  • Assist the Financial Controller in any additional projects and ad-hoc requests.
  • Maintain a friendly and open team attitude that encourages all other employees to approach the Accounting team and wider Finance department with queries or concerns to ensure the continual improvement of the business as experienced by employees and clients.
  • Identity and implement continual improvements to processes.

The Successful Applicant

The Technical Reporting and Controls Accountant will both report to and work alongside the Financial Controller, and must be able to demonstrate previous experience of:

  • Conversion from old UK GAAP to IFRS and FRS 101 of consolidated and individual statutory accounts for the group;
  • Provision of technical accounting advice;
  • External reporting, especially IFRS and FRS 101 (or local equivalent); and
  • Development, management and testing of a month-end control environment.

Essential:

  • Be a qualified ACCA or ACA.
  • Have hand-on experience of statutory accounts preparation.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, with strong knowledge of accounting and disclosure requirements for financial instruments a particular advantage.
  • Understand what a good control environment looks like within a finance function, and how to develop and manage this.
  • Well organised and can work under pressure

Advantageous:

  • Financial services experience.

Desirable but not vital

  • Experience of Sun systems.

To assist in this project, there is at least a 4-month need (with potential for temp to perm) for a Technical Reporting and Controls Accountant, reporting to the Financial Controller in the Finance team within the London office.
