About Our Client

My client is a North West family run business which is now one of the areas largest employers with over 800 staff. From an impressive head office the organisation serves stores of all shapes and sizes in excess of 600 sites combining business owned and independent stores alongside an impressive manufacturing set up on site.

Job Description

As a Trading Controller the key accountability's are;

  • Manage the trading performance of the category, including maximising sales growth, margin, profit and product availability across retail and manufacturing areas
  • Select and source products and ranges to deliver core estate & member promises in terms of value and service.
  • Develop and execute a full category promotional programme to deliver sales growth for core estate and independents
  • Conduct supplier negotiations to deliver products and promotions that are competitively priced for our members and meet income targets
  • Innovation and creativity of NPD utilising the on site manufacturing element
  • Lead, motivate and develop direct reports to ensure that the highest level of service is provided to all areas of the business at all times.
  • Work cross functionally across the business with key stakeholders
  • Keep abreast of retail trends, competitor activities and store requirements at all times.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance against budget/forecast, including sales value, volume and profits.
  • Complete regular store visits and demonstrate understanding of store operations and business needs.

The Successful Applicant

This Trading Controller role is suited to someone who would thrive in an autonomous environment where being versatile across categories is desired. Because of the manufacturing element the Buyers can have complete end to end ownership of the category and be really innovative and nimble in bringing through product from concept to launch.

  • Proven track record of results delivery and achieving financial targets.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills; able to close deals.
  • Strong customer and market focus.
  • Ability to engage direct reports to deliver the plan with effective communication, clear goals and individual targets and objectives.
  • Energy, enthusiasm and drive to deliver results.
  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong analysis and decision making ability.
