Chief Economist

Based in London, an exciting and challenging opportunity exists for a Chief Economist whose purpose is to build and manage a world-class economics portfolio. The Chief Economist will perform two key functions essential to the organisation's success. The first will be to produce and oversee economic research and publications that meet the highest academic standard. The second will be to exercise policy entrepreneurship through the creation of new policy initiatives with external partners that advance the organisation's mission. The Chief Economist will possess a commitment to a free society, free and open markets, and the role of virtue in political economy.

Their role will be to:

¨ Build the organisation's profile as a global leader in free market economics.

¨ Build a team of highly motivated economists who share a vision to establish the organisation as a leader in the field, especially with regards to a free markets approach to global development, capital markets, and prosperity.

¨ Build networks with world class economists in London and globally. A main responsibility of the Chief Economist will be to recognise opportunities to partner with other economists who share the organisation's values and mission.

¨ Regularly conduct research - individually or with his/her team - on issues pertinent to the organisation's mission, and publish and disseminate the key findings to a wide audience. The candidate will regularly publish market commentary, op-eds, articles, provide commentary and other electronic media that creatively communicate core research findings.

Who we're looking for
¨ The candidate will have a strong academic education at a world-class institution. A Ph.D. in economics is preferred.
¨ An original thinker, the successful candidate will be sympathetic to the origination's economic values, which are more Austrian School-oriented.
¨ The candidate will have a demonstrable track record of successful leadership in an academic or commercial environment. Such leadership may have been attained in a business, university, a think tank, or a similar research setting where they have also set up and managed teams. Relevant leadership experience would include not only producing research but also overseeing a research programme carried out by others under the candidate's supervision. Leadership in analysing and understanding capital markets is especially preferred.
¨ The candidate must have recognized credibility within their field. The candidate will have substantial experience with the creative use of networks, manipulation of effective media, and the use of professional associations and partnerships to communicate research findings.
¨ The candidate will have a strong grasp of communication media outside of traditional academic dissemination methods. For instance, the use of social media and popular forms of communication should be familiar to the candidate.

What's on offer
Salary is circa £110,000 - £130000 , plus excellent benefit package and relocation package (if appropriate)
