Risk & Compliance Officer

This role will involve the following;
• Development, drafting, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of firm-wide manuals, policies & procedures and practical guidance
• Leading the implementation of new legislation and rules which impact on risk and compliance within our business
• Managing the client/matter inception process including advising on risk assessment and client due diligence as well as monitoring compliance
• Advising all practice areas on compliance and regulatory issues including conflicts, professional ethics and the Code of Conduct
• Working with HR ensure that our registration and key contact information with the professional governing bodies is maintained on a current basis
• Provide support to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer on all money laundering matters including devising, implementing and maintaining policies & procedures.
• Support the Data Protection Officer on all data protection matters, including devising, implementing and maintaining policies & procedures, providing advice on data protection matters and maintaining our registration
• Creation, development and maintenance of a Risk Register
• Develop a good understanding of types of work undertaken by the firm and of business service functions in order that risk and compliance issues can be identified and addressed appropriately
• Identifying new areas of risk and determining the correct response
• Raising risk awareness and understanding of risk management
• Induction training of all incoming partners, fee earners and support staff
• Provision of ongoing training on Risk and Compliance to partners, fee earners and other relevant staff
• Ensure that appropriate areas of risk and compliance are included in the file review process, review the outcomes and implement appropriate actions to address the identified weaknesses
• Complete risk management sections of the Professional Indemnity Insurance renewal proposal forms and take appropriate actions to address weaknesses in risk management in order to minimise premiums
• Contribute to the annual general insurance cover renewal managed by the Management Accountant
• Contribute to the development, testing and implementation of a business continuity plan owned by the Facilities Supervisor

Who we're looking for
In depth knowledge of either or both of the Law Society of Scotland or SRA code of conduct, rules and practice guidance
Good knowledge of the anti-money laundering rules
At least 4 years risk and compliance management experience gained within a legal practice
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, including a firm but diplomatic style
May hold a risk management qualification
