Senior Commercial Accountant

This role will have the prime responsibility for the financial elements of this key project, taking the lead on financial negotiations with suppliers and all aspects of internal financial reporting.

The successful candidate will be the principal advisor on the financial terms and conditions and for making payments based on these terms; will have an in depth understanding of the Project to ensure costs and forecasts can be modelled accurately; and will ensure that all financial activity is within the appropriate governance structures.
The post holder will have sole responsibility and accountability for explaining the financial position to the Project Director and appraising them and the Head of Financial Management of any risks to the financial position.

Key areas of delivery will include:
1. Development of new supplier financial models to reflect supplier costs and the investment required
2. management of existing complex financial models which will require iterative development to reflect the revision of services, for example, multiple spreadsheets including advanced formulae such as Vlookup and pivot tables. These financial models will need to be maintained to ensure they are fit for purpose;

3. Identification of financial risk and impacts of contract changes, developments and projects. Monitoring and managing this risk in line with financial forecasts;

4. Modelling the supplier payments to produce accurate forecasts of Revenue and Capital expenditure to ensure accurate reporting
5. Modelling and analysing complex scenarios around changes in demand and activity. This will require the use of spreadsheets to interpret information gained through supplier returns; contractual documents; emails; meetings and other ad-hoc information.
6. Developing management information that informs effectively, including the preparation of complex finance reports for presentation to managers;

Who we're looking for
Qualified CCAB accountant ( ACA / CIMA / ACCA/ CIPFA )with post qualification experience covering:

• commercial acumen
• experience of working on large scale contracts (preferably in the public sector)
• project accounting
• financial modelling and forecasting using complex spreadsheets
• open book audit
• contract cost accounting
• ability to work on own initiative

Excellent IT skills, in particular, experience of using advanced Excel functions
Excellent communication skills both in written documents and verbally
Experience of supporting supplier negotiations
Ability to work with senior management
Evidence of effective time management, effective prioritisation delivery to deadlines within a pressurised environment
Experience of dealing with conflicting priorities
Ability to work under pressure

Desirable Competencies:

Experience in a commercial environment.
Experience of working within IT industry
Ability to structure complex issues and work packages
Ability to work in a matrix management team
Project accounting experience<BR>Experience of working in a large IT project
