You will be the sole legal representative within the Peek UK organisation.
This is a generalist position with primary responsibility for preparing, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements as well as working with legal advisers within the Imtech businesses in The Netherlands.
You will also be involved in commercial property matters, employment issues, intellectual property protection, managing claims and the management of outside counsel. This is a highly autonomous role and as such you will be required to build and maintain excellent relationships across the business to ensure our commercial approach is maintained at all times:
Responsibilities of this role will include:
1. Vet contract conditions, ensuring compliance with the Company's guidelines and that any onerous terms and conditions are correctly dealt with.
2. Ensure all liability, IPR and contract and commercial risks are quantified where possible and advised to and understood by the relevant business unit before a contract is entered into.
3. Review commercial aspects of tenders and contracts including letters of credit, Insurance requirements, bonds and guarantees.
4. Work with project and depot managers to ensure accepted contracts run smoothly, take the lead in ensuring contractual disputes are resolved in a speedy and satisfactory manner.
5. Act as initial adviser on all aspects of company and contract law, liaising with outside advisers where appropriate and co-ordinate any legal activity related to contracts.
6. Ensure relevant staff are kept appraised of the impact of any changes in laws and legislation concerning the commercial management of the company.
7. Draft applicable licences and agreements covering all areas of the business including confidentiality, distribution and sales agency, software use etc.
8. Oversee all property related issues, including lease and rent negotiations.
9. Working with the Quantity Surveyor, providing advice and assistance on legal issues that arise with any existing contracts
10. Provide efficient contract management and administration
Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor with a demonstrable commercial background, coupled with strong business acumen. You will preferably have worked in a commercially focussed in-house team and will have experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction contracts. You must be able to demonstrate a pragmatic approach to dealing with the commercial issues that will arise in a business environment, be able to communicate both potential and actual legal issues in a clear concise way so as to provide a sound basis for management decisions yet maintain a professional and balanced approach at all times.
