VAT Accountant

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you'll be responsible for all aspects of VAT compliance within the UK Group, to include:

• Review of draft client contracts to ensure they correctly reflect the substance of services and the appropriate VAT exemptions
• Review set up requests for new exempt status business to ensure that the appropriate contract support is in place
• Providing advice to operational teams regarding VAT status of services provided
• Working with operational teams and client directors to resolve client disputes on the VAT status of fees
• Monitor changes in UK VAT legislation, investigate the impact on the UK Group and lead projects to implement changes as appropriate
• Maintain and amend VAT guidance issued through the company intranet and training modules to ensure relevant, complete and up to date
• Work with IT and operations on necessary systems developments to ensure VAT compliance
• Responsible for HMRC correspondence - including requests for rulings, general queries, requests for repayment of VAT, voluntary disclosures, etc
• Review the VAT audit checks performed by the Finance Process Team ensuring that issues are followed up and necessary corrective actions are undertaken promptly
• Review of the UK Group VAT return. This is a detailed task as the group has a number of VAT complexities including property sublets, reverse charges
• Review the month end VAT control account reconciliations

Who we're looking for
You will have / will be:

• ACCA or ACA qualified, with practical VAT experience.
• Well organised and ability to work under pressure
• Able to prioritise workload and thrive on working to deadlines.
• Intermediate/advanced Excel including pivots, VLookups, SUMIF
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Sound technical skills with an attention to detail
• A self starter who seeks new challenges and demonstrates ownership of new tasks
• Able to work in a constantly changing environment and be able to react positively to changing demands
