Horizon Discovery Ltd. is a UK translational genomics company developing and supplying patient-relevant drug discovery and diagnostic research tools. Having grown from a revenue of £345k in 2008, to £4.8m this year and a forecast for further considerable growth in 2012, the business is undergoing a level of success that now requires the appointment of a full time Director of Finance. The company has recently raised significant additional funds from both existing and new VC investors. As such, this represents one of the most exciting vacancies in this sector in recent years.
Based in Cambridge, responsibilities will revolve around creating the financial infrastructure necessary to allow for the continued growth of this entrepreneurial, dynamic and rapidly evolving business. Whilst not initially a Board position, this is to be expected within a 12 month period. It will be an expectation of the successful incumbent that they will have the ability to lead the company through an IPO on the London Stock Exchange.
The role of the Director of Finance will include:
• Hands on responsibility for the finance function and acting as Company Secretary.
• The production of monthly, investor and statutory reporting and the proposal and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. Standards expected will be that of a high profile VC backed and/or public company.
• Working with the Company's tax advisors, develop a taxation strategy for the Group. This will include R&D tax credit claims.
• As a member of the Senior Executive Team, you will contribute to the continued growth and success of the business.
• Oversee, present and obtain approval for the annual budget and longer term plans.
• With the CEO and Board, plan a potential exit/IPO for the existing investors.
Who we're looking for
• An ACA qualified individual with at least 5 years Post Qualifying Experience*. Your background is likely to be with a "Big 4" firm.
• Ideally, you will have been involved with an IPO and/or have significant M&A experience.
• Public Company audit and/or M+A experience is an essential requirement.
• You will have Excel skills to an expert level.
