Continuous Improvement Manager

Actively manage, mentor and coach a team of highly skilled professionals and ensure the department has firm objectives and a clear direction on how to achieve them.

Drive continuous improvement and best practice within a complex manufacturing process. Plan, organise and control (and regularly review) the process engineering resources in order to ensure the achievement of both day-to-day and longer-term objectives with respect to customer quality, output and costs.

A key interface between operations, engineering, quality, customers, R&D and sales.
Champion and promote the lean sigma manufacturing and work place organisation philosophy and manage a diverse team of professionals.

Ensure that there is a certain degree of 'hands-on' technical support and participation and ensure that the team 'get their hands dirty' to support shorter term priorities where necessary.

Essential member of the management team influencing and making decisions to ensure that the strategic objectives of the factory are achieved.

Diagnose and offer innovative solutions for technical / operational process and product capability issues.

Oversee the training and development of employees to support process and product developments and manage departmental budget.

Be responsible for ensuring that environmental, health and safety issues are fully considered in the proposing, planning and implementation of any process improvements.

Change agent helping to break down the barriers between departments, challenging, empowering employees and shape, develop and implement a long term strategy using Lean techniques and other operational tools.

Develop conceptual process ideas and implement programs to make these the reality utilising the skill set at hand.

Who we're looking for
• Educated to at least degree level in an engineering or scientific field.

• Experience and in depth appreciation of technical papermaking knowledge is essential in this role. Consideration will be given to process industry applicants with the relevant experience and knowledge are evident.

• Formal management education or in house course as part of career development with a significant level of line management experience.

• Black belt / Master Black belt lean sigma level is advantageous as the role demands a large level of management of lean sigma.

• Clear manufacturing background with an ability to prioritise and seek solutions to problems impacting the operational objectives

• Proven track record in the delivery of Lean techniques within a continuous manufacturing environment.

• Proven track record in management of a team using performance management and HR framework with ability to handle conflict and manage a team
