As the Application Support Specialist you will be working for DS Smith Plc's Shared Services function, initially focusing on supporting the Paper manufacturing part of the business. Within this division you will be responsible for the financial systems and satisfying the needs of the users of those systems. This system landscape includes a mix of legacy systems (RPG / COBOL) and new BI system services which are based around Cognos TM1.
Whilst you will initially be based in Sittingbourne, Kent, there will be the need to travel to other locations when required, such as Maidenhead (Thames Valley) and Caerphilly (Wales). This is because the Shared Services function is spread out across multiple locations.
From a technology perspective, DS Smith is currently in a period of transition where they are preparing to upgrade and replace numerous areas of their IT footprint. One of these areas is the DS Smith Paper application piece, in particular the Finance-facing applications.
The ideal candidate will report into the Business Partner for DS Smith Shared Services and will work as part of the application delivery team. The role will focus on improving and supporting the organisation's financial IT applications, including delivery of new solutions. This will involve input into the implementation and development of the applications architecture, as well as, providing second and third line support for all applications, old and new.
Other responsibilities include:
• Introduce structure around the management of Finance requests to IT and promote the use of a robust development cycle.
• Analyse the Finance requirements regarding Cognos and undertake specification, design and re-development as required.
• Provide second and third line applications support for the finance software tools. Working with 3rd party support providers, as appropriate.
• Follow departmental processes, including application development processes and security standards.
Who we're looking for
• Credible stakeholder management skills
• Previous exposure to assisting with the rollout of Finance systems.
• Financial ERP system knowledge (e.g. SAP)
• An understanding and appreciation of Finance processes and working with Finance departments.
• Proven programming ability, capable of learning RPG to assist with maintenance of existing legacy systems.
• Adaptable enough to understand and take ownership of Cognos BI. Cognos Express Xcelarator / TM1 skills preferred.
