Our client is looking to appoint a talented Machine Shop Manager to drive this part of their manufacturing business forward. As Internal supplier to Production in the business, this is an excellent opportunity to head up the Machine Shop and implement change management from an Engineering perspective. Reporting to the Production Manager, with a team of over thirty, you will be responsible for the planning and day-to-day function of the machine shop.
As Machine Shop Manager in this exciting new role, you will:
• Continuously improve the Machine Shop facility and processes though modernising the shop floor and machine practice.
•Manage the day-to-day running of the Machine Shop, whilst planning and developing the long-term strategic development.
• Use lean manufacturing and best practiceprinciples to increase the productivity and QDC performanceof the department.
• Be instrumental in taking control and raising the profile of the Machine Shop and questioning and improving the machining processes.
• Work very closely with the Production function to ensure a smooth flow of continuous product to them.
• Lead and drive continuous improvement projects within the Machine Shop and ensure full sustainability.
• Manage the development and performance of all personnel within your area of responsibility, including indentifying and organising training requirements and keeping accurate training records.
• Drive quality improvement through implementing changes such as introducing standard work documents, quality plans and applying root cause analysis.
• Have a hands on management style with the ability to lead, motivate and develop strong teams in a challenging environment and be familiar with performance management, if needed to optimise the value of the team.
• Have worked in a Mechanical Engineering Environment and be comfortable applying the techniques and tools you use to ensure thereare smooth processes and procedures.

• Enthusiastic, pragmatic and a self starter
• Approachable and patient with the ability to build lasting and credible relationships with staff at all levels
• Ability to be thorough and work within and to current systems (challenging where necessary)
• High computer literacy in PowerPoint, Excel & Word.
• Strong engineering background (either time-served apprentice or mechanical engineering degree).
• A proven track record of running and improving a Machine Shop with CNC turning, grinding and milling functions.
• Extensive CNC background in precision engineering production environment.
• Have a strong ability to plan & prioritise heavy and diverse workloads to self and others, also demonstrating sound problem solving abilities, organisation skills and keen attention to detail.
• Have a working knowledge of capacity planning and a working knowledge of OEE and best practice techniques.
• Be capable of working and delivering in a pressured environment, improving on-time to commit and on-time to request figures and fast tracking processes.
