Head of Product Development

Role Objective
To take responsibility for all technical aspects of product development both new and existing. To maintain the product portfolio, offering high level of efficacy and substantiated health solutions within the constraints of the regulations. Balancing this with quality requirements and cost constraints.

This is a senior management post and, as such, will require an individual who can manage people effectively to ensure delivery of goals and objectives whilst working as part of the leadership team.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities include:

1. Product Development
• Brainstorming new products
• Identifying new product or ingredient ideas
• Product strategy
• Re-forming current products to meet new or changing demands, new lines, corporate image, improved design and efficacy
• Briefing and managing product development work with external consultants
• Contributing to new brand name ideas and writing concept sheets
• Working closely with TQM by providing product expertise to support the quality process.

2. Research and Continuous Professional Development
To continually update and maintain personal knowledge base to contribute best practice, latest developments and competitor information to ensure the company keeps abreast of trends and moves within the market. This includes:
• The latest nutritional science
• Overview of Industry regulations
• Competitor products
• Evaluate third party products

3. Marketing
To contribute effectively and creatively to outside agencies, customers, enquirers in writing, verbally and in presentations as required. This includes:
• To act as the product knowledge conduit with Marketing, in a two way partnership that will involve ad hoc training and support of the Marketing team, in addition to providing product input and advice relating to marketing initiatives.
• Attending Trade Shows as appropriate, to collect competitor information and attend relevant lectures.

Who we're looking for
Key Skills/Knowledge Required
• Qualification or significant experience in nutrition, health food and supplement sector, cosmetic industry, mail order and retail sectors
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and their limitations
• Brand management experience.
• Creativity and the ability to "think outside the box" in product development
• Attention to detail combined with a thorough, meticulous method of working
• Time management to meet tight deadlines
• Flexibility to run with changes to timetables, schedules and/or product changes
• Good communication skills
• Strong people management and leadersipleadership skills
