A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Head of Political & Government Affairs. As the suitable candidate you will:
• Develop strategic relationships with key MPs, Ministers and Special Advisors in Westminster Government to promote the work of the organsiation. • Ensure that forthcoming legislation - in particular the Communications Bill - allows a safe, secure and reliable UK internet to develop, with responsible self-regulation as its guiding principle
• Build equivalent alliances and relationships in Wales in support of the new Cymru/Wales.
• Review existing political relationships and contacts, memberships and alliances to ensure that the organisation is plugged into the Westminster debate and has the reach and alliances to exert influence
• Develop a campaign plan for the organisation on the Communications Bill to ensure that our voice is heard
• Monitor legislative developments and provide insight and early warning on developments of importance to the organisation.
• Support the Chair, Chief Executive and Board's own political engagement plans.
Who we're looking for
My client is looking for a candidate with:
• At least five years' experience of Public and Political Relations, preferably with a period of providing in-house support of the kind envisaged in this role.
• A demonstrated track record of effective influencing and alliance building around legislation or policy-making processes.
• A strong grasp of current political issues and developments.
• A good understanding of the specific issues affecting the internet and ICT industries would be desirable. However, demonstrated capabilities in another sector with similar challenges (eg where there is a need to explain and influence on complex technical matters) would also be considered.
• Given the need to support our relationships with the Welsh Government, an understanding of the political and economic landscape in Wales would be highly desirable.
• Very strong communication skills, including in particular the ability to explain complicated subjects clearly and succinctly to a lay audience.
• Ability to work with others to build alliances on complex dossiers, and to work across political boundaries and party lines
