Supervisory Technical Life Insurance Specialist

The role of the team is:
• to identify and assess conduct risks across the insurance sector
• to prepare a range of tools and reports which will inform and guide supervisory action such as, for example,
o peer group business model and financial analysis for sub-sectors and
o business cases for prioritising regulatory action on conduct issues
• to build and maintain the risk maps and through that facilitate evaluation of the effectiveness of the mitigation of conduct risks
• to play a role in the development of staff in relation to the UK insurance industry
• to liaise with firms, trade bodies and other stakeholders / commentators and effectively manage both inward and outward (where relevant) flow of intelligence and information

The role itself involves:
• Leading and shaping the team's intelligence strategy;
• Driving proactive, rigorous and timely analysis of the impact of the macro environment on insurer business models to identify potential implications for individual lines of business and/or product characteristics
• Leading and owning the insurance departments' 'house view' of market developments, structure and issues across one or more Insurance sub-sectors
• Identification and clear articulation of risk of / existence of detriment to consumers to deliver earlier, proactive risk identification
• Building and maintaining a network of internal and external contacts
• Deliver technical support for supervisory colleagues where required/relevant for thematic or firm specific work
• Provide technical coaching
• Provide support to wider training and communication initiatives within the Insurance departments
• Represent insurance sector conduct issues internally and externally

Who we're looking for
Technical Expertise
• A deep and current understanding of either the life or general insurance sectors and within them of business models, key products and the roles played by various different institutions in the sectors.
• Very strong analytical capability with a proven ability to quickly and clearly draw out key implications from a broad and varied range of information. This is not a theoretical or academic role.
• An independent thinker with an analytical mindset and a risk-based approach to decision making, including the ability to reach sound and timely judgements & decisions which can be justified in a concise and effective manner.
• Internal & external stakeholder management - able to build effective relationships with external and internal stakeholders with particular focus on risk intelligence. Credibility and capability to influence senior management
Business and risk acumen
• In-depth understanding of the business models of key firms and the nature of relationships between firms within either the life insurance and general insurance markets and the ways in which these can give rise to detriment for consumers.
• In-depth understanding and awareness of the key conduct risks in the life and general insurance sectors.
• General commercial awareness and understanding of the broader macroeconomic impact on life and general insurers and how this might affect consumer outcomes.
