The Rights and Business Affairs Lawyer role will include a range of responsibilities and involve close working relationships across the business.
Reporting to the VP, Finance & Business Development, this role will be responsible for:
• The reviewing, negotiating, drafting and administrating of a wide range of content and rights agreements, including, but not limited to, those related to acquisitions, commissioning, production, development, talent, distribution and output
• Rights management including researching developments in third party content offerings and services, creating rights and commercial structures and standard agreements for new ventures, for example Live Stand Up DVD business and revising the business' rights requirements on an ongoing basis
• Significant commercial deals and agreements which are time-intensive on an ad hoc basis
• Providing general compliance and legal advice but focussed on commissions and contentious programming. Includes pre-production and post delivery reviews and fast turnaround material
• Formulating and advocating channel position externally and internally within Viacom
• Communicating to the business regulatory and other changes in the industry that might have a business impact

• Working independently and with other Viacom businesses
To be successful, you will need experience in:
• Rights & clearances and applicable deal structures
• Acquisitions, commissioning, production, development, talent, distribution, output and all relevant underlying agreements (useful if includes PACT/EQUITY PACT/WGGB).
• Experience of dealing with the US Studios, other major distributors and UK producers from initial deal negotiation through to long form negotiation and execution.
• Broadcast TV, content delivery platforms (linear and non-linear) and all relevant technology
• The regulatory environment, all relevant regulatory bodies and their respective codes / regulations; legal issues that may affect programme content (e.g. defamation; privacy).
• General knowledge of the main commercial agreements / relationships across the TV / content business.
