Job description:
The work will involve advising and acting for clients in connection with construction disputes. Some non-contentious work may be required but the role will primarily focus on contentious work. The contentious construction work covers:
• adjudication
• advice on standard and bespoke forms of building, engineering and process plant contracts and subcontracts
• arbitration, national and (some) international
• claims negotiation and resolution in negligence and breach of contract in the construction, civil engineering and process plant industries
• contracts of engagement for the professional team
• defects claims
• litigation - mainly Technology and Construction Court
• loss and expense claims
• performance bonds and guarantees
• PFI post contract advisory and dispute work.

Who we're looking for
Person Specification
A solicitor with an excellent training background. Team player with a practical and client-friendly approach. An ability to analyse and report on complex contractual issues and to identify key issues; plus a proactive approach to case management and willingness to undertake a demanding workload is essential. Previous construction experience is not necessary, but the candidate must have a real desire to specialise in this area and a commitment to Birmingham.

• Acting for developers, contractors & major sub-contractors in disputes referred to adjudication often with a multi-million pound value, including one involving a claim for £20m.
• Advising on various PFI projects in the health, education and infrastructure sectors.
• Acting for a merchant bank in the defence of a £3m claim arising out of the construction of its European Financial Centre in London.
• Dealing with numerous construction industry adjudications, including 10 with a value each in excess of £1m.
• Dealing with Airport, Road, Rail and other infrastructure projects which have resulted in disputes.
