Engineering Director

As the company's Engineering Leader, you will ensure to deliver the business strategic plan, working very closely and inspiring our engineering teams and all their stakeholders to identify and deliver leading edge, innovative technical solutions and engineering excellence. The job holder will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining cost effective engineering processes, systems, codes of practice and for design / product safety.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide and maintain technical direction and expertise for all projects and product development advising design / bid teams across all disciplines.
• Drive cost effective engineering design solutions for both pre and post contract.
• Establish and review technical solutions to opportunities, by leading technical teams in problem resolution / brainstorming activities / product development.
• Manage the research and development budget in line with strategic plan.
• Control engineering costs within agreed budgets
• Provide focus for raising technical excellence, including standards and methods.
• Act as a technical specialist in a review capacity, ensuring that proposed solutions have considered all relevant technologies and techniques within the bounds of the requirement.
• Monitor and control the safety of Company products via the Product Safety Auditors, and ensure that Design Safety and Design Certification procedures are maintained and developed.
• Define, evaluate and select engineering tools across all disciplines in conjunction with other senior staff.
• Develop a proficient resource base to maximise the engineering expertise for all the product streams
• Allocate appropriate engineering resource to meet contractual obligations and programme costs.
• Ensure effective co-ordination with other Senior Management / disciplines within the Division.
• Develop external links between the Company and other sites, universities and research houses to ensure latest thinking is available for application into our products.
• Create a team-working environment for employees to achieve job satisfaction by establishing, encouraging and sustaining a process of regular and clear communications, target setting based on KPI's, individual performance management and feedback and maximise the contribution of all engineering staff.

Who we're looking for
The successful candidate should possess a proven engineering management background in the core disciplines of power engineering and/or electronic/electrical design and the ability to act as technical review authority across all of the business streams.
You will need to possess a broad knowledge of systems engineering, electronic/electrical/mechanical engineering best practice and lean manufacturing as they affect the core engineering disciplines.
Personal Attributes
• Electronics honours degree or an appropriate subject (minimum 2:1).
• Chartered Engineering status advantageous / highly desirable.
• Proven track record in a similar working environment focusing on power and electronic design solutions, preferably at a senior / director level role.
• Demonstrate successful track record of delivering the engineering strategic direction to match the business plan
• Significant experience of the following: Power Systems Equipment, Systems Engineering or other appropriate applied advance technology industries.
• Technical innovator. Ability to 'think outside the box'.
• Capable of applying a pragmatic business approach to key technical and operational decisions.
• Technically competent, financially and commercially aware.
• Have demonstrable leadership skills for leading and motivating the team.
• Interpersonal skills and personal qualities to engender credibility with customers.
