Updated May 14, 2008
This newly created position will be critical for the business to improve the entire system of engineering programme management, thereby streamlining and increasing the efficiency of customer order through to commissioning and handover. The aspects of this cycle that fall directly into the remit of the role are management of 15 to 20 individuals involved in all Product Design (electrical, mechanical, thermodynamics etc), Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD) and Project Engineering with a large influence also on New Product Introduction. From the legacy of being an owner managed business for many years the successful individual will be challenged to professionalise the Engineering Department. The changes needed to do this will involve department restructuring / team building, moving away from completely bespoke products to standardisation of the product range, implementation of a new solid modelling package and setting KPI's to measure the departments' effectiveness.
Who we're looking for
You will preferably be a graduate mechanical (or similar) engineering professional with first class experience of running Engineering Departments in the project/capital equipment manufacturing industries with challenging KPI's. Your ability to oversee all operations making up the department and ultimately take full responsibility for their delivery to ensure complete customer satisfaction is of paramount importance. This will take excellent project and programme management skills alongside first class interpersonal skills with a strong commercial bias and the ability to lead, develop and inspire teams to enable them to perform to the best of their ability. As the successful candidate you will be rewarded in the future with the opportunity to invest in the business acquiring an equity stake.
