The Estate Department at the V&A provides and manages all of the technical services such as engineering, building surveying and estate management, playing an integral role in the delivery of capital projects.
As Head of Estate, your key responsibilities will include:
• Provision of advice on all matters of a technical (engineering and building) nature
•Direct responsibility for the estate-wide provision of engineering, building and estate management support services.
• Review and setting of V&A's Estate strategy to work in alignment with V&A's corporate strategy
• Provide leadership, line-management, development and motivation of the staff within the Estate Department
• To play a full part in the division's management team providing advice and assistance to colleagues on matters relating to the museum's smooth and efficient operation.
• Advise the Management Board about the acquisition and disposal of premises consistent with the museums strategy.
• To act as the V&A's sustainability champion, particularly in the development and promotion of an energy conservation strategy.
Who we're looking for
• A Chartered Engineer or Surveyor with full membership of a professional institute (IEE, CIBSE, RICS or equivalent) with considerable senior level management experience gained in large, complex buildings, managing multidisciplinary teams of professional engineering and building fabric staff and large maintenance contracts.
• A genuine appreciation and understanding of architectural practice and the requirement, particularly in grade 1 listed buildings, to achieve appropriate design solutions for all works, no matter how small.
• The ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of the organisation in both written and oral presentations.
• An outstanding record of leadership and results achieved through teamwork.
• An interest in museums, historic buildings and art.
