The Finance Shared Service Centre was established last year as a shared centre of excellence in finance data control and production of financial reporting through the use of common processes and technology.

An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual has arisen to join the FSSC team as Head of Reporting & Control. This is a challenging role, which requires excellent technical accounting skills, operational skills and strong leadership skills. The jobholder will report into the FSSC Director. You will have 4 direct reports and a department of approximately 50 qualified and non qualified staff.

You will be required to work collaboratively with Directors and Senior Managers in the Business Units and Group, both within and outwith the finance function. The job holder will be expected to manage a budget of approximately £2 million.

Who we're looking for
Essential
• Qualified Accountant with extensive experience of working in a financial role/function and leading teams of qualified staff and non qualified staff.
• Experience of working in a senior finance role within financial services
• Excellent knowledge of UK and International statutory and regulatory reporting environment.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, practices and processes.

Desirable:
• An audit background
• Experience of working within the Life Assurance Industry
• Experienced Accountant, displaying commercial awareness and focus and able to take full responsibility for the accounting requirements within a defined area of the business.
• Providing high quality, robust, relevant and timely accounting data with the ability to understand and articulate recommendations to non-accountants.
• Knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS and FSA regulations to ensure compliance.
• Budgeting and controlling resources through effective management of the area.
• Understanding and applying detailed knowledge of Standard Life's products to accounting and reporting requirements and their contribution to the bottom line.
• Monitoring quality of output against key deliverables, evaluating progress and identifying and mitigating against financial and operational risks.
