Job Purpose
The role will encompass all aspects of the Firm's Risk Management, Control & Compliance policies and related initiatives including inter-alia, the management/reporting of control issues and remediation thereof arising from incidents and inspections of the business. Specific focus however would be in relation to fund administration process internal controls, working closely with the Head of Operational Control and assisting the business with the development and maintenance of a strong control environment.
Job Background/context
The position will report to the Head Of Operational Control and involve assisting in the development and maintenance of a strong control environment and ensuring the Edinburgh Business adherence to related Corporate standards and requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintenance of error reporting documentation and internal reporting, producing regular and meaningful MIS and validation of actions arising from such incidents
• Maintenance of all corrective action plans including monitoring and management of closure process working closely with the operations teams thereon, preparing meaningful and timely MIS
• Co-ordinate, advise, monitor and review the quarterly self assessment process, ensuring that all Operations teams important risks are up to date and in compliance with policy;
• Perform ad hoc controls reviews, preparing appropriate, timely and meaningful reporting for Senior Management;
• Assist in the management of controls related reviews and audits of the Operation that may be performed from time to time by internal audit, external audit, Trustees, Depositaries and clients
• Providing clear and concise reporting/regular MIS/status updates on action plan(s) and issues etc to the Head of Operational Control and other Senior Management both locally and out with the Edinburgh location;
• Liaison on a regular basis with subject matter experts ensuring that Edinburgh operations remain compliant on a timely basis with relevant Corporate policy;
• Provide technical support to operations departments on appropriate compliance and controls issues, including recording and timely response to internal queries as necessary.
• Adhere to Compliance Standards and Corporate Policy.
• To assist in raising and maintaining the profile of the team as a professional and trusted business partner
Who we're looking for
• Degree educated
• Professional qualification relevant to the role ideally from an audit background.
• Internal controls experience, at a level that can identify control weakness, making relevant and meaningful recommendations for improvement. Such experience would gained from the Funds servicing arena, either through an operational risk/oversight function or an external /internal audit type background.
• Knowledge / awareness of SAS70
• Knowledge / awareness of principles of a Risk and Controls self assessment process
• Knowledge / awareness of handling errors that may arise in fund valuations
• Some familiarity with FSA regulations relating to Funds
• Experience of developing meaningful MIS
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written and confidence in dealing with internal parties, including Senior Management;
• Ability to identify relevant potential issues in a clear and timely manner and to be able to critically assess proposed resolution thereto offering superior recommendations to meet or exceed standard;
• Ability to partner with operational personnel at all levels to achieve timely results;
• Ability to take a leadership role to ensure objectives are met in a timely and meaningful manner;
• Confidence to run/ contribute to potentially challenging meetings;
• Ability to influence Operations Managers with a view to making appropriate improvem
