Design Manager

Reporting to the Regional Design Manager - responsibilities for this role will include:
• Responsibility for reviewing the quality of design information provided at tender stage and undertake a full design gap analysis to advise the bidding team of any design shortfalls.
• Manage the distribution of information process through document controllers
• Ensure design solutions provide company with opportunities and are based on company bid strategy, cost and business needs
• Ensure designers comply with company protocol
• Ensure that the agreed design is in line with the tender documentation
• Ensure design risk appraisals are carried out and properly quantified
• Provide advice on buildabilty and quality issues
• Monitor issue of RFI's and receipt of answers
• Allocate design co-ordinators to projects
• Comply with company procedures
• Provide leadership when necessary for the D&B department
• In conjunction with the Regional D&B manager, identify resource needs and recruit as appropriate
• Undertake additional responsibilities as required by the business.
• Review all design and build opportunities and identify and plan the actions required to develop ideas and concepts into working documents for pricing purposes
• Liaise with the bid manager to agree design management support/input to bid teams
• Carry out an initial review of the tender documentation using a GAP analysis to identify the shortfalls in the design and report back to the bid manager
• Review, Interpret and understand and redirect project information and documents to staff
• Interview, select and appoint the appropriate design consultants planning, building regulation, and other statutory bodies as appropriate, and design sub contractors
• Discuss and agree with appointed/ novated consultants responsibilities for developing the design, and agree appointments, scope of services, fees, design programme etc to be provided
• Allocate D&B coordinators to specific contracts as appropriate
• Supervise, motivate and identify training needs of staff and encourage personnel development
• Organise and chair design progress
• Prepare detailed design review and design gap analysis for all tenders and projects
• Assist in tender reviews and settlements
• Represent the company on D&B matters

• Ability to identify and develop talent
