The primary requirement for the Group Financial Controller will be to supervise and co-ordinate all reporting - ie monthly management accounts, quarterly submissions to the parent, forecasts, budgets and year-end accounts.They will carry out the consolidations which are complex, involving several currencies, minority interests and sub-groups. The group is in the process of migrating to Cognos Controller.
It is intended that the reporting cycle will be shortened and developed over the next 12 months to provide more informative data to senior management more quickly and in a more user-friendly format.
The GFC will be the public face of the finance function. This is a high profile role and it is important that the successful candidate has a mature approach and is quickly able to forge strong relationships with finance teams "in the field" and command the respect of his/her peers both in Head Office and in the group's operations. The GFC must be able to deputise for the Group Finance Director, as and when required.
Responsibilities
• Preparation of monthly accounts, budgets, updated forecasts and annual group accounts
• Preparation of other ad hoc reports as required
• Critical review of above
• Ongoing review and monitoring of systems, including supervision of appropriate internal control systems to ensure the Group meets its statutory reporting and compliance requirements, as well as providing timely, accurate financial information to the main Board and relevant managers across the Group
• Supervision of finance team (3 people)
• Liaison with outside advisers
• Ad hoc projects (eg post capital investment appraisals, maintenance of group accounting manual, special field projects)
Who we're looking for
•You will be technically excellent and up-to-date.You should have supervised complex multi-currency consolidations or been responsible for consolidating the group figures of a multinational organisation.
•You will have highly developed presentation and communication skills, with an aptitude for quickly gaining trust and building rapport to develop relationships both internally and externally.
•You should have a mature attitude and be able to quickly gain the respect of other Head Office team members and operational management, being the public face of the finance function.
• Strong analytical skills are a key attribute
• Mastery of Microsoft Excel is important
• You will have excellent academics and be ACA qualified.
•You should enjoy working in a small team and be self-motivated
• Knowledge of COGNOS software packages would be an advantage
•You will be expected to travel to operations three or four times a year and may be away from home for up to one week at a time
